Harig Surface Grinder Technical Support

Hi

I'm not entirely new to this forum as I have been reading and following threads here for some time. I am a beginning/wannabe knife maker and I have used this forum and other forums to increase my knowledge. Being a beginner, I haven't felt like I had anything to post about until now.

I have been putting my shop together and in that process I acquired an old Harig surface grinder. I was having some problems using it and decided to contact Harig. I contacted their technical support specialist, Jim Seyller. He told me that he had worked for Harig for 43 years and that he may have built my grinder. I explained the problem and he suggested that I begin to disassemble the machine so that we might find the problem. He walked me through the entire process. I emailed pictures of parts to him and he even reviewed them.

I ultimately ordered some replacement parts. Some had to be fitted and he helped with that as well.

When it was all said and done the machine works like a new one. It doesn't look like a new one but it works like one.

If you have a Harig (or even another brand) machine and need parts or technical service don't hesitate to call Jim at 847-683-0476. He was outstanding to work with!

Sorry to be so longwinded but I just wanted to give credit where credit was due. I'll shut up again now!

Did Jim have much to say about the production line moving to Tru Tech's facilities?

I currently have a newish Jet manual surface grinder and started looking at switching to a CNC grinder due to the percentage of time per part I was spending surface grinding. I got a lot of recommendations for Harig, but was surprised to see that they are consolidating their manufacturing at Tru Tech's facilities.

You can read about that in a letter on Harig's website:

However, your post reinforces my interest in buying a Harig.

Good! I'm not associated with Harig or Tru Tech in anyway but Jim sure was helpful to me. I believe he also mentioned having used machines and sources for parts for other brands. Give him a call. Harig does still have a website and Jims email address is listed there if you would rather contact him that way.

Ted, it is nice to find companies that still back the products that they build.
