Surface Grinder

I am trying to get an old Delta Milwaukee surface grinder up and running. It is a smaller machine that can pivot and be used to grind bits and cutters. It has several places to add oil for shafts and maybe the sliding parts of the bed. I need to know what kind of oil to use. Any ideas?

I use motor oil for the oil fittings, and regular grease for the grease serts.
Automotive grade has worked for years here, it may not be proper but it works.

Vacra 2 way oil would probably be the more proper thing to use on the ways. It's commonly used for that application. As Geno said though, motor oil will work. The motor oil won't cling to the surface as well.

You can get Mobile Vactra 2 at Enco, MSC, etc. Any of the tooling supply places should have it.

I have way oil but it sticks too well. Every grain of dust is drawn to it and it forms a kinda crust that must be cleaned off before I use the machine.
My shop is dusty and humid, motor oil is simply less work for me.
If you buy every lubricant for every machine, you would have 1/2 what you have, and a LOT of liquids stored.

I use motor oil on drill press shafts, the lathe, mill, etc...
It is less expensive, easier to clean up, and handy.

Clean ways make it last longer and operate more smoothly.

Good argument in favor of motor oil. I will try it first!
