Ranger Classic! Advice requested
I am getting the itch to build another knife, and the Ranger Classic is on my short list. I read a post regarding the Classic's threaded tang, and how it seems to be a bit weak at the attachment joint.
That is one thought I had, as I looked at the blade pictures and info. I won't ever beat the merrie Aitch out of the knife, like some "survivalists"/Bushcraft experts on YouTube. But, the specter of puttng some serious pressure on the handle while field dressing a critter, and hearing the tang weld give way is bit concerning. Can someone give me some information regarding the blade, more particularly, the blade/tang ruggedness? Thank you. |

That does look a little weak. You could weld it up a bit more when you get it or even braze or solder it to re-enforce it and it should be fine. When you put it together be sure to use a solid handle material and screw the pommel nut down tight to draw the handle all together very solidly (after filling the handle with AcraGlas, of course). If you do all that you shouldn't have anything to worry about.....
