obligatory first post

As of today the die is cast!

Figured I'm thick into it now so I may as well stop lurking, I read all there forums enough to give my wife a case for justifiable homicide. The story goes like this; been a chef proper for quite a long time, picked up a new gig in a fairly small kitchen, I've been having Japanese blades made for my work for years and this new place has some annoyingly slim counters so all my long fancy blades suddenly became a liability. For the last few years I've had the bug to start blade-smithing...now i have an excuse!!!! Woo! Called up a local, very well regarded blacksmith who is crazy kind and patient (I pay for fuel and my tuition in baked goods ) so here we go! bit the bullet today and picked up some goodies

some tongs, a punch, cross-pean close to the one I'm used to, a punch and a Hay Budden #150 in nice shape I think for $375, thinking I didn't get screwed but you never know?

So thanks everyone for your knowledge an patience, I'll be focusing on kitchen knives as I have always felt there are still gaps to be filled.

Looking forward to burdening everyone with my ignorance lol!
cheers!
Jason

You'll find out. Welcome aboard. You seem to be starting out with a nice selection of blacksmithing tools and it's nice to have someone to work with. I hope that he has some experience in making knives but anything that he can't help you on I'm sure someone here will be able to.

Doug
