i sure am glad that bill asked it, because i sure was stumped.
sounds like a great idea, i also thik that its good to have one for the newbies because although no one wants to exclude the masters, it just makes it clear not to expect mother of pearl handles, mosaic damascus dagger with a ruby in the thumbstud(if you get what i mean) although if anyone does throw that in the hat im sure the receiver will be grateful

i think something like this offers a great oportunity for newbies to not only be new to makeing but also start them out collecting.

BTW: NO FEE

-Peyton Runyan (Peter Ryt)
-Undisclosed Name (jdm61)
-~Pending~ Jason (elkdoc)
-Jon (synghyn)
-Mike Ferrara (Mike Ferrara
-Brett Holmes (Holmsy2000)
-Bill Withem (Bill Withem)
-~Undisclosed~ (BigD)

Big D- you haven't been actually making custom knives for a year, so why not.

As far as this excluding people- it's not meant to be an "Us and Them" sort of thing. I just feel that when I send out my newbit knife to someone and get a Bush Bastid in return, it throws off some of what this is looking for.

Here are current things to vote on:
-3,4,5, or 6 months of time
-Starting date: between Jan 1 and Feb 28 (depending on length of time provided)
-Random drawing, SR guys with SR guys and Forged with Forged, even distribution of SR and Forge, SR and Forge etc. or random?

As for the whole forged vs. SR thing, no biggie.....we should have one big happy pool....I forge, but i would love to be able to find and afford a Steve Rapp, Steve Johnson or D.E. Henry knife. one conditon i would like to see.....no kits..hand made blades only. cast guards that you do some work on are an ok type of cheating...lol It is mostly a confidence this. if you can finsih a kit, well then you can grind a blade......if you have 3- 5 months to do it...lol any thoughts?

Oh, an important thing- Mungo Park is Canadian- yall don't mind paying another $10-$20 for shipping to Canada do yall? If so, we'll find a way to work things out.

Dwane Oliver here: It's like paying , what 30.00(shipping) for a hand made knife , Awesome. I agree put everyone in the same pool/pot. Is there a theme or anything special to do?

Dwane- no special theme for this one. Do whatever you want to do.

Here is what I'm thinking so far:
-4 months to make the knife starting Jan 31.
-Anyone who doesn't have a year of custom knife making experience starting now (December 03, 2005) is valid for this KITH
-The borders are Canada and U.S. If there's someone down in Mexico, they can join in too. Anyone who over seas can join in if they are willing to pay for the extra shipping costs to and from wherever they are.
-No fee
-No theme
-Very best work
-Completley mixed pool- the drawings will be randomized
-Make sure to record what you're process was. In progress pics would be appreciated. This will allow everyone to learn from each other.
-Anything I'm missing?

Here is the updated list:
-Peyton Runyan (Peter Ryt)
-Undisclosed Name (jdm61)
-~Pending~ Jason (elkdoc)
-Jon (synghyn)
-Mike Ferrara (Mike Ferrara
-Brett Holmes (Holmsy2000)
-Bill Withem (Bill Withem)
-Dwane Oliver (BigD)
-Ron (Mungo Park)

I think this is a great idea, I wish someone thought of it a couple years ago when I was first starting out. I passed on the first couple KITHs that came my way since I didn't feel up to the challenge. It should be a great learning experience and also build some friendships along the way. I'll be keeping an eye on this out of curiosity even though I don't qualify to play. Have fun with it guys.

peter, i wast acctually signing up for the kith sorry, i seem to have confused you. i would looove to sig up and could easily get a knife doe in time, however i think ity is alk ittle rude of me to expect someone to pay for postage half way around the world to australia. because everyone else will pay like 5-10 bucks and who ever gets stuck with me would be looking at around $25

I doubt that they'll mind paying a bit extra. If it worries you though, you could wire them $15 to make up the difference.

Signed up you are.

Ok fine. You all go ahead and have your own little click thing. Take an idea you found here and then exclude the ones that taught you all this stuff. No, No that all right, it don't hurt our feelings none. How bout' some more rules why you are at it. Like no asking questions if you get stumped. I guess it will be a good thing though. Ya'll won't have to try very hard cuz after all, yer just trading with another noob. I won't be following this one...(just kidding, with an exaggerated whine)

.........."and the sign said old time metal pounders, need not apply." "So tucked my bowie in the back of my belt and I went in to ask him why"

"He said you look like a fine upstanding young noob, I think you'll do"

"So I whipped out my stag handled, damaskus, file worked bowie and said, "Imagine that"

"I could been sending"........ "THIS ONE TO YOOOOOO!" "Signs, signs everwhere a sign......"

A must read for all KITH (knife in the hat,) or IITH (iron in the hat) noobies and not so noobie's. Link below.
On not losing sight(cickhere)
