Another thing that helps make it easier - use an appliance rated timer. Set it for the cycle durations you want, ie. 2 hrs on 2hrs off 2hrs on, etc. Set it for a preheat cycle then finish prepping your blade or blades for HT. It will be ready and waiting. Remember the heat will drop when you open the door so recheck your heat a few times after placing the blades until you get comfortable and confident.
Also make a slotted stand from soft fire brick (easy to carve the slots with hacksaw). Make it small and thin as reasonable. This way you can place the blades spine down and edge up with no side stress from laying on their sides....hedge all your bets.
