help with stuck bolts
Well, I'm upgrading my old Bader Bii grinder - some new attachments, heavier spring and a new 3ph motor with VFD. Trying to remove the four flush-fitting, allen head socket screws that hold the steel Bader frame to the face of the "C-frame" motor. They were probably painted in place 30 years ago and don't want to move. I can see the allen wrench flexing as I apply pressure - I'm sure I could easily snap it with a little more pressure. I also don't want to damage the allen sockets. I've tipped the grinder on it's side and am allowing some WD-40 to soak in over night. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert, but I wonder if you applied some heat to the bolts with a torch? I've had to do this with various tasks while working on cars and it's helped with stuck bolts. Thanks, Gene |

I'm no expert either and am not familiar with that grinder but.... I own a Jeep with a LOT of Torx and Allen fittings that occasionally freeze up like that.
You may want to purchase a Hex Key Socket for your ratchet and give that a whirl rather than Allen "Wrenches" which are typically "L" shaped and flimsy. This will give you much more torque to work with. __________________ Stay away from fast women and slow horses |

Bought some "Liquid Wrench" - not a big selection of penetrating oils in this area. And, while digging through my toolbox, found a 3/8" drive socket with the right size allen bit! A great feeling when the wrench handle moves as the bolts break free!
Thanks again. J JDWARE KNIVES |

help with stuck bolts
Have you heard of "Mean green" ? I used Mean Green on an old Wilton Machineist vise, took it apart and soaked it for 2 days, not only took off the paint, took off all the rust down to gray metal. It is organic, I get Mean Green at Family Dollar store or Deneral Dollar, try Family Dollar store first if you want to try it, 5.00 for a gallon, 2.00 for a 40 oz. spray bottle. Use on rusted tongs, and what ever, best cleaner I've used, be careful with painted surfaces that are not baked on paint.
Hope this helps, Don |
