Civil War Era Bowie

Recently finished.

Bowie repro by Alex Daniels based upon the Civil War bowie featured on pgs. 358-359 of the "Antique Bowie Knife Book".
The handle will be ebony, (original is buffalo horn), which is being checkered by Alex at present time.

The 1850's English scroll pattern, per instructions, is as close to the original design as was practical.

I have to say, I really like working on these kinds of projects. Studying the designs and layout the old-time engravers used always has something to teach.

Hope you all enjoy this!
Tim

Simply Awesome! Great work by the both of you guys. I've met Alex a couple of times, and he is a hoot. Quite a good maker as well! Is there a chance he will be taking this to the NYC show in March? Is this already sold?

Tim, your work is on the money. What a great job!

Coop

Thanks guys for your comments!

Jim & Wayne
I just finished a brace of custom flintlock longrifles prior to this job...so my head was really "into" it!
I love the beauty and grace of period weapons!

Coop,
I'm not sure if this will get shown around. It's for a client/collector.
I'm lucky to knock off these photos!
Last time I checked...Alex was approx. 5 years in back-orders...only bowies!
Alex's work is top-shelf and it's been a real honor for me to work with him on these projects.
I learned a lot from this artist.

Hey Coop!
...notice that I've been playing around in photoshop a bit?... ...Thanks for inspiring my efforts...

Tim

Beautiful work Tim. I too like the work the old-time engavers did. You did well in your travel back in time!
