Hey folks, I've convinced the wife to let me pay up and join the nc custom knifemakers guild. It's too good a price to pass up for those of us still in college, so I'll be sending my application off this month. I hope I can get to know all of the people here and learn everything I can. Maybe at some point I'll be able to help someone else along too. I met Alan Folts 6 or 8 months ago and we had a few talks and I got to go out to his shop. Really nice and helpful guy and an incredible maker, I'm sure he's representative of the other fellows here.

By the way Alan I wish I could have stuck around Greenville longer and actually gotten some shop time in with you, but, as we all know, life sometimes tends to get in the way of what we want.

Anyways, I just wanted to drop in and say hi. I've always followed the NC Custom Knifemakers forum but never posted here.

Welcome to the guild!

Be on the lookout for our next meeting dates. The date should be posted here sometime soon with the location. Come by if you have the time. You'll enjoy yourself and learn an awful lot. It's worth it.

I read that the next meeting is in kannapolis, which is about a 7 hour drive from here. I don't think I'll convince the wife to go there with me (read as: I can't use her car unless she goes) and my work commuter won't make the haul so unless someone is driving through my area I might miss that one.

Never know though... maybe there's a mall nearby that she wants to shop at.

I'm in Jacksonville, seems like I picked the wrong side of NC to make knives on, all of the guys here are in the west!

I know Alan is just north of me and a few years ago I met Dave Vail at a gunshow, but everyone else that I see on ckd is far west near charlotte or ashville and whatnot.

Btw, I can't even get my wife interested in knives at home. Maybe if I made some "stiletto" shoes for her she might get interested. I'll mention the mall to her though, she usually likes to go to them. Is it comparable to the malls in Raleigh or smaller or larger?

On a side note, if anyone is passing through Jville or near enough that I can meet you, let me know

I have to go to Greenville Saturday, but I should be back around 1pm, the wife will be working from 5, so if we have to we'll sneak you in after she takes off.
