Jig for Flat Filing(Flat grind) a blade??

Is there a jig for flat filling(By Hand) a blad to get it like a flat grind from the Spine to the cutting edge?The jig would keep both s##es of blade at the same angle for a uniform look and function. I will be liveing in an appartment and can do without the noise and dust a belt grinder gives off.

I have never seen one and recommend you don't wast your money if you do find one. This stuff is a skill and I recommend you take the time to develop your abilities at this skill.

Many new people want "Jigs" to help them do things and that is understandable, but most end up doing things the way the rest of us do them.

Flat filing is not hard, it is tiring sometimes but is not difficult. Mount your knife in a vise and just pull the file towards you with it at the angle you want the blade to be. Once you get close, you lighten up on the pressure and keep going. When you get really close, color the steel with a majic marker and start filing with a finer file. You will see the high and low spots by the removeal of the color. once you get where you want, switch to sand paper and work it all the way down to a final polish.

Some fo the best and fanciest knives were made this way, tools just help do it faster and aslo help screw things up faster.

Thank you Mr. Warner, I will heed your advice. It no doubt will make me a better knife maker when I get started.

There may never be a jig for everthing sometimes you have to make one.I made a board the shape of a knife then used a c-clamp to hold it down.Then start with a second cut file and finish with 400 grit sand paper wraped around the file.It takes time but works.
