Poor mans tube flaring press
I took some 5/8" drill rod ,sawed off two 2" pieces , turned a 60 degree taper on one end ,and after determining the threaded diameter of the screws holding on the jaws of my vise ,I turned and threaded them to fit where the jaw screws go .Then I hardened the two pieces (of O-1 ) and polished them in the lathe .
Now when I want to flare a tube for a hollow pin or a lanyard tube I just take the two opposing screws out of my vise , insert my poor mans flaring dies , set my tube in the handle ,and while holding the knife with complete control in one hand ,close the vise with the other hand .
Works like a charm !

Sounds cool. Consider picking up a cheap arbor press from Harbor Freight. Set that up with your dies and you won't have to take your vise apart any more ...

I just use my drill press. Made up mandrels similarly using scrap/busted drill bits (we all have them). Easy to chuck up, center the points and the visual is plenty good on my bench press. Any way you do it, the trick is being centered and no travel or side play. Hundred ways to skin the neighbor's cat.
