Question When to electro-etch?

Greetings all,

I've noticed that some makers have done their etch very close to the handle, so close that it seems that you would have a problem getting the etching "device" that close. So, I'm wondering where in the building process most makers do their etching? Before doing handle work, after handle is completed, etc. Or does this all come down to the maker's prreference in his overall crafting process?

TNX for sharing your thoughts.

I'd have to go with the maker's preference. For me, it's usually the very last thing I do even after the sharpening. Still, if you want it very close to the guard it's a lot easier to do that before the handle is in place...

I often mark the blade before putting on the bolsters and scales, but just as often, I do the mark last. You are free to do it in whatever order you are comfortable with.
