Lost Randall Model 1

I carried a Randall Model 1 with an 8 inch stainless blade when I was in the US Army in the early Sixties. It had a brass guard, a leather handle with finger grips, and a duraluminum butt cap, drilled for a thong; the blade had my serial number etched on it along with my name.

Later, I lent the knife to my then- girlfriend's brother, Alan Firth USMC, when he received orders to Viet Nam. Unfortunately he was later killed in Quang Tri in 1968 (?) and my Randall disappeared.

I hope another Marine inherited it. If anyone runs across this Model 1, I sure would like to have it back.

It's unfortunate that you lost your Randall under such tragic circumstances.

I echo Ron's sentiments that you will one day have it returned to you.

In the meantime, are you a collector or user of Randall knives? If so, please feel free to join in with the rest of us RMK freaks here on these forums.

That was a nice thing you did back in the 60's. I'm sure the Randall served your friend well. Hopefully it will turn up.

Have you tried locating anyone who may have served with him?

Well, I don't know about it's being "nice" but I thought it was my duty to enlist. Lots of other guys had served and died to give me what I had.

I didn't know much about Alan's Marine unit back then and I don't know of anyone who served with him. I think my best bet is to post on this forum; lots of knowledge is resident on this board.

I've known about Randall knives for a long time and carrying that old Model 1 started a love affair with RMK that has persisted for years.

Some time in the late Eighties I was in Orlando on business and on a whim I drove up Orange Blossom Trail looking for their shop. Luckily I spotted their tiny sign and drove out a little road through an orange grove. What an experience! I was inspired to place an order for another Model 1 similar to the one I had lost.

I have it-- and a few others now; it costs me $$$ every time I fly in or out of Orlando!

Thanks, Ron-- it sure did look a lot like that one; I had to look carefully to see if my name & serial number was on it.

I ordered that Model 1 when I was in Germany and the delivery backlog at that time was over a year. Randall always put active- duty military people at the head of his priority list so my special- order Model 1 was delivered very quickly.
