Slipjoint pivot pins; copper and mosaic questions..
G'day gents,
I'm re-building a slipjoint knife, new scales, and bolsters. Its a 2 blade trapper, and I'm speaking of 3/32" or 1/8"pins, depending on what I use. I have a couple simple(probably not) question about the blade pivot pin, would a mosaic pin be strong enough, pien down and hold OK for this? For some reason, I have the idea that a mosaic pin is weaker than a solid pin. The other question is; would copper would be OK for this? I can't see why not, as nickel silver is used a lot for pivot pins, and its quite soft. If it makes any diference, the copper would be with copper bolsters, and the mosaic would be with damascus. Any and all help apreciated! G. __________________ http://ak-adventurer.net/ Gary Blessing, Ex-custom knife maker, Ex-Folder modifier & embelisher. |

Copper should work just fine. A mosaic pin is made up of lots of small parts.so, if you tried to pein it, the parts could possibly come loose and those towards the center could come out. If you did successfully pein a mosaic pin then you would probably distort the pattern.
You might try a test by just putting a piece of mosaic pin through a piece of steel and try to pein them together ... |
