Put a piece of tape on the blade and use it as a guide, just line the bottom of the stamp up to the tape.

If you must use a stamp then have one made, that's the only way to guarantee that everything lines up. Other than that, an electro-etcher is a lot easier and can make a more complex mark than most stamps...

Had one made at buckeye engraving, his adds are in blade and knifeworld. They were great to work with and made a solid product. I can fwd you the email if you pm me. I think mine was around $100 shipped.

I had a friend make who is a machine ist make a jig\punch press for me, that way it lines up every time I've got a hydrolic press that measures lbs so I can create a consistent mark every time.

That stamp is the coolest thing ever! (But I'm also a big nerd to hear my wife tell it!)

Alex

I've noticed that some of the letters/numbers aren't even square to the punch itself.....not sure if that makes sense. Some of them have to be turned slightly one way or the other to line up right with the other number/letter you stamped.

I agree with Ray....spend the money and get a custom stamp made. I stamp all my blades (at least all that are of adequeate size to stamp). For me a custom stamp cost about $100, and even with all the knives I produce, the average life span is 8-10 years!
