folder repair

hey everyone this is my first post i hope somebody can help me i have two folders that i need repaired i would need them taken apart and some light rust cleaned maybe a pin or slab replaced i'm not sure because i don't know anything about the construction of folders i am having trouble finding someone that can help they are from a good friend's dad that has since passed away so i want to keep them looking good they haven't seen any use in years so they need an overhaul thanks for any advice ryan

Welcome to the forums Ryan!

These forums are more geared towards helping you learn what you need to know so you can do that type of work yourself. There's enough liability associated with taking someone's memorabilia apart and trying to repair it that you may not find any takers. If no one steps up, you might get a copy of Blade magazine from any large news stand and check their classified ads ....

I doubt you'll get a custom knifemaker to repair your folders. It would take more time than the knife is worth.

I often have people ask me to repair knives. I just tell them no.

There are a lot of guys there that do this sort of thing. Great quality work too. Browse through some of the threads from the last few monthes... you'll be amazed what can be done to some worn out slippies....


To Don; value of the knife can be verry relative, especialy if you've had it for a while, or in this case, where you got it.... just think of the millions that some people spend to re-build some junky old cars.

If you want to try it yourself get a copy of Ben Kelly Jr's "The complete book of pocketknife repair". The only guy I know of who accually does repaire is this fellow named Alvin Johnston who hangs out in rec.knives. Don't know if he'll do it or not as he does this for fun not profit.
