for a liner lock knife with a blade 1/16" thickness what thickness liner would you use im thinking .06 or .05
I like the .05 to save overall thickness but .06 for strength.
I know the .01 diff isnt much but still I wonder which is better.

Bill, it wouldn't make much sense to me to use liner material virtually the same thickness as the blade unless you're making a frame lock. 1/16" thick blade is just .0625" thick so I'd go with the .050" liner material if not a little thinner.
How big is the knife going to be?

L6, why would it not make sence to use the same thickness material? the knife will be a small (6-8 inch overall) pocketknife.
how would .03 liners do.

Generally, the liner is much thinner than the blade - look at most any knife on the market. The biggest reason I can think of for using something thinner is that your knife ill be fairly small. That means the liner will be short and a lock cut from a short, thick liner may be too hard to operate - the spring may be too strong.

Anyway, .030 would do if you make the lock wide enough that it has some strength but about .040 would be my choice. The .050 will also work, just cut the lock longer and a bit more narrow so that it isn't too stiff......
