Curly maple handled seax
Just finished this one this weekend.
And here's a picture of the tang. It's not historically accurate, but it has a bit of tapered tang. Blade length is 9 inches, and the overall length is 14 1/2 inches. Steel is 5160. I'm beginning to really like the look of curly maple. Jamie __________________ Jamie Boley Polar Bear Forge - Custom Blades www.polarbearforge.com jamie@polarbearforge.com |

I like that...simple but nice. Your right about the curly maple too....
They just had a thread on the Brit knife forum about Seax knives...quite interesting. ps..edit..by 'simple' I mean nice lines and an uncomplicated look......a real user Kevin. Last edited by Coutel; 12-06-2002 at 03:38 PM. |

Seax
Nice work, clean.....more and more I am coming to appreciate how very functional the traditional blade forms are no matter how "simple" they appear at first glance. This one is a user for sure.

As an admirer of the traditional seax I have to say I am also an admirer of the modern versions we're now seeing.
Jamie, I think you've put together a great updated seax, that curly maple is highly appropriate, our ancestors used the natural materials of their immediate surroundings. You can bet they would have liked that very stylish and practical tapered tang too. Roger |
