Question Shop Exhaust ?

Hello All:

Got the ceiling sheetrock up a few days ago and am ready to start on the walls. What is a good way to figure out what size, as in CFM, exhaust fan I would need to install? My shop will be approximately 24 x 24 with 9 foot high ceiling. I'd like to forge a bit and do some grinding in it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Bob Jensen

A wholehouse house fan would be nice. A seperate vent over the forge. I pick up those old furncae blowers and vent em out the window.

The dust collector setup I use is a Harbor Freight dust collector 31810-ovga, and with a accesory kit 47919-ovga. I used the box it came in to partially cover it to cut down the noise. It is vented outside, the collector bags aren't used. There are two collector stations, one for the drill press and one a collector box below a 2 X 72 belt grinder. I am happy with the system.

OOps, the Harbor freight page wouldn't post?? Go to Harbor Freight.com and type in "Dust Collector".

Grizzley has dust colectors too.

I use a 24" window fan too in the shop for a big clean up.

This is sthe movable collector used at the drill press, it's the same idea as movable coolent hose for machine tools only bigger.

Dust collection

Hey Guys:

Thanks for all the great input. I'm looking into a couple of options now. I'll let you know what I decide.

Thanks,

Bob Jensen
