WIP Integral with a ?Jumping Edge?
Chuck (AKA Wild Rose), and I have an order for another one something similar to this.
http://www.taigooknives.com/Gallery%..._Sheath_1.html http://www.taigooknives.com/Gallery%..._Sheath_2.html The blade is forged integral from ? round 5160, with a ?Jumping edge?. The handle is a piece of nice hard, dark, dense trunk stock from a local Staghorn Cholla. ? ?Jumping cactus knife? for short. Here?s what I have so far? |

I worked on an idea for the back end a little this morning. I wanted to try something reminiscent of a Staghorn cactus bud.
The actual flower buds are edible,? though I haven?t quite figured out how to prepare them yet. It?s just some quick cold punching (a bit of drilling and reaming) on the end of a round copper bar with a round punch? might use it. |

Tai, I think that will work just fine! Are you going to carve the wood some on the butt?

I worked on the back end a bit more today,? added a washer and started carving the wood down.
I also twisted up some wire for a wrapped ferrule, and started taking the wood down in that section. I?m going to fill the voids in that area with epoxy paste before I take it down anymore. Last edited by Tai Google; 04-07-2010 at 02:34 PM. |

That looks awesome Tai,
I was wondering what was on the end of that Tang Tai. The part that goes thru and sticks out. Is it copper? and is it somehow soldered to the Steel? Jeff |

I almost forgot about that one Bud. The one you have is actually the first.
Yes Jeff, it's copper silver soldered into a "V" notch on the end of the tang. |

Ray, I think "shank" means "knife".
... or a knife like object used for stabbing. Shank with a jumping edge... Last edited by Tai Google; 04-09-2010 at 08:28 AM. |

I'm having fun picturing the forging process in my mind. This one is going to be nice. __________________ Tracy |
