Hi All
I thought I would show you the press that I built. I have had this idea running around in my head for some time now, in fact I have had the cylinder for over a year. Other priorities have kept this on the back burner though. (JS test knives for 1)
Anyway, Bing's post on his press got me fired up and I decieded I wanted the press more than sleep so as the family was getting ready for bed, I was heading out to the shop to work on this. an hour here and there and this is the result.
It is a compact design being 43" tall. I intended on mounting it on a steel bench I have, but right now it is on an anvil stand on casters. It is currently powered from the hydraulic system of my Case 222 garden tractor. The performance of this setup is fantastic and I may stick with it for a while. At any rate, I can use it this way until I get an electric over hydraulic set up.
All the materials for this is scrap including the cylinder. It was a rebuilt tilt cylinder for a 15,000 lb fork truck. Whe the truck was replaced, all the parts were thrown out. I did have to buy the hoses and fittings and welding rod.
