I read on some forum a while back a debate on jimping. The argument was jimping isn't really needed, especially "gnarly" jimping. Reason being, if you are using a knife in such a way that jimping is needed, it probably needs to be slight or none at all, as rough jimping will blister the thumb and be counterproductive.... or something like that.
Anyway, I hope you can see this. I use a chainsaw file and do an alternating pattern that is functional IMO as well as decorative, without getting all crazy with vine patterns etc.
