New Shop

Well, I have been working on my new shop since May. I finally forged my first blade in it Saturday. It was alot of work but I had fun building it. I did all the work myself except setting the tusses and a little help with the roof tin. 24x36x10 with 10x36x8 upstairs. I made a clean area 10x20 and a "man retreat" 10x16 upstairs. If your in the area, stop by. jc

Whew! I'm jealous. That looks great. Make sure you keep some good sized fire extinguishers handy. That's my only fear about building with a lot of wood.

Nice job John. I was just up in Athens for Thanksgiving, and drove by Watkinsville on my way back to I-75. I would have been tempted to stop by if I'd known about this earlier. I like how you used the corrugated metal for the lower part of the walls, but I'd suggest boxing in the openings at the top. No sense having something hot fly out of the tongs and down into that gap, especially if some shop mice have made a nice tinderball of a nest in there.

Thats a great shop you did good building it .
nothing like having a place to retreat to to reflect on the days work .is the up stairs going to become a finish shop like leather, it sure would be nice to have a loft.
as for the fridge keep it stocked never know when one might stop buy

Carl said that you might be about ready to host a Georgia Guild meeting. You certainly have a very good place to do it. Looks like a lot of thought, as well as work, went into your shop. Seems like the kind of place that is going to only get better as time goes by. You did good!

Thanks Guys, my only problem is spending too much time out there.
Mama still has my honeydos in the house.
Yes it did replace the shed in the back. And a small dirty place in the basement...
The tin is upstairs, no hot stuff up there, and I got 4 fire extinguisers yesterday !
We'll have a blow out this spring for the Guild meeting.
I hope to spend many long hours out there, and teach my little Harry how to make a knife or two. If I can keep him still long enough. Ya'll come. jc

PS. I left the floor unfinished, Pond sand, the more I'm out there the more I like not having a poured floor. Easy to clean and not too dusty.

Great looking job, John!! Looks like it'll do you for a bunch of years. Like Dad said, you'd better get the fridge stocked tight. A shop like that's bound to have visitors! You need to tell everybody how many trips up and down the ladder it took to finish. Congrats!!
