Acraglas or Casting Resin?
Hi Guy,
This is a new one for me. I want to cast some dimes into stabilized burl scales. I reckon I would set them in by making a nice round hole with a Forstner bit, pressing the dimes in and potting them with Acraglas. I didn't really want to pay and wait for jug of casting resin to arrive. I am hoping that 1/16" or 3/32" of Acraglas will become a clear window when sanded and polished and provide protection and be durable enough to last in the kitchen. Has anyone used Acraglas in this "window" kind of way? Thanks for your advice, Dan __________________ "Don't believe everything you know." -- bumper sticker |

I haven't, but it seems to me that it would take hardly any effort at all to use a scrap piece of wood and a coin to see what you would get ....

I used the casting resin from hobby lobby in the US. Micheals probably has the same stuff or something similar. It comes in different sizes so you don't have to buy a large amount until you see if you like it. I was very happy with the results. Here is what I did.

I guess the question is more about aging or yellowing. The shrinkage (or almost lack thereof) is well known and I've observed first hand it's ability to polish up.
