Welcome aboard! (No pun intended) There are many great knife makers in TN if you get some time to visit. That could really shorten the learning curve ...

Firetrain

Welcome to the forum.

I am glad you never stop learning, because in knife making or fly tying, I find you learn something new almost every day.

It stops being fun when you stop learning, just MHO.

By the way the guys on here are more then willing to help, all you have to do is ask...

I am also from East Tennessee, Maryville, TN.

Jeff

Lot of knifemakers up in that corner of TN. Used to be a sticky somewhere with info about where some are located. I have a good friend up in Saltville, Va just north and east of you. His name is Mark Williams and he's a moderator over on the Bladeforums. He'd be worth hooking up with for information on the smithing end of things.

Hey, if you're near Johnson City you need to start showing up at Rocky Mount the 2nd Sunday of every month around 1pm or so. Come in the back gate, the front will be locked, and ignore the "do not enter one way" sign. You just missed the July meeting, but since it was so hot there were only about six of us there, so you didn't miss much. It's technically a blacksmith's guild, but most of us do knives.

Oh, and keep an eye out for the announcement for Bowie's Hammer-in in Knoxville. Usually around the end of Septemeber, but it migrates a bit.
