Best effort so far
I started on my knife making journey the first Monday in August ,2011, at John Costa's shop in Watkinsville. Here is what I think is my best effort so far. OAL 13.25, blade 8, handle 5.25.
Blade steel O-1, guard 416 stainless, Handle is stabilized black ash burl, stacked leather and mosaic pins. Thanks for looking and all the help from the guild. Dan |

It's been my honor to share our craft with Dan. He has learned well and his talent will take him as far as he wants to go. Well done buddy. JC

Dan, my friend, you did yourself (and my son, John) worthy of being student and teacher with that excellent knife. You are welcome to come to my home and shop for help with your sheathing. ---Sandy---

Dan, that's a really good job! The blade and handle are well matched with the overall effect very pleasing. That handle style is not easy for an experienced maker and you've pulled it off nicely. It reminds me of one I did years back that gave me fits. Guess I got the tang in the quench and forgot to anneal before placing the pins. Broke a drill bit, cussed a bunch, but finally over came the problem. Anyway, this one is well done. Kudos to you and your mentor (my LB)! Be sure and take Dad up on his leather offer.

Thank you Sandy, that means a lot to me. Your" son" has truly changed my life for the better as have all the people I've met since August. Can't wait to see you at at The Hammer In. Rick, it is like you were there with me. It is funny how 2 people can have the same experience, but of course I wouldn't cuss---just ask John. All problems end up teaching me something Thank you for all the help and lessons you gave me last fall and see you in a month
Thanks to all in the Guild. Dan Moye |

Looks like Fido's butt!
Guess he's turning into a "show dog". Nice work Dan. RLo's right those type handle applications are wrought with problems even if the tang is annealed. What's next? LB's pretty puffed up like a proud daddy, of course he's kind of emotional anyhow. Should of heard him on the phone the other day when he was standing in a nest of anvils......... __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 5-J |

Thank you Doug and Travis. Looking forward ti seeing you at Track Rock. Dr.S, it is a pleasure and honor knowing you. Carl all your comments and critics are appreciated. I hope to continue learning from you and thanks for the instruction and hand filing last fall---love it. John is sappy, but has tolerated me fairly well and has taught me a lot, as have you all. Thanks to all. Come see me and John
