Bowie's Hammer-In 2012 Official Announcement
I have recently learned that Bowie has set the date for his famous hammerin this year, so clear your calendars:
September 28, 29, and 30. The list of demonstrators has not been set as of yet, and knowing Bowie it'll be a while, as in we'll know when we get there. The address is 2918 Ellistown Rd Knoxville TN 37924. If you want to call Bowie and harass him on the phone before the event, his number is 865-660-1569. See you guys there! No pre-registration needed, just show up and sign in. No admission, just bring something for Iron in the Hat. This is always a great event. |

Thread bump!
The time is drawing closer by the minute, and it's not too late to make plans to attend. Did I mention it's FREE? There's always a lot of great people and things there, tailgate sales, a GREAT iron-in-the-hat (I'm putting in a little spike axe this year), and lots of great demonstrations. Show up and learn stuff if you're new (or old!), meet fellow bladesmiths/knifemakers, and generally have a great time! |

Just whipped this up for Iron-in-the-hat at Bowie's hammer-in this coming weekend. See the link down in the Events of Interest section for details.
If you don't know, iron-in-the-hat is a way many groups have of supporting events. You donate an item to the table, and people buy tickets and place them in a cup beside the items they want. After everyone has placed all their tickets, those for each item are dumped in a hat and the youngest sentient child present draws the winner. The reason for using young children is to prevent violence when you don't win what you want. Anyway, at Bowie's, tickets are $1, no limit. You don't have to put something on the table to participate, but please do, it helps defray expenses. 18th century style spike axe or scalping axe, mild steel body and spike with 1084 edge, super-fancy curly maple handle. Head weighs about 12 ounces, edge is 2 inches, lengths overall is about seven inches, handle is about 15 inches. Show up at Bowies and it could be yours for one dollar and a bit of luck (no bribing the children!) |

Alan,
Hope you guys have a great gathering. Tell Bowie I said Hi (I know I owe him a visit). Trackrock is the same weekend (this one). Not near enough weekends in the year. This will be #21 and we're expecting a record crowd as well. Lot of fire and hammering going on this weekend! You guys further south that don't want to travel that far, Trackrock is in Blairsville, GA 2hrs north of Hotlanta. It's free as well. More info on Ga Guild Forum further down this KNF site. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |
