leather handle question.

What do ya'll use to glue the leather pieces together when making a leather handle?

Glue, generally. That's part of what the KITH is about - looking for new ways to do a leather handle. Personally, I've built mine into blocks and sent them to K&G to be professionally stabilized so I won't be needing any glue. I showed how this was done in the Chat Room a couple weeks ago.

The old way was to oil the leather and then compress the stacked handle by tightening down the butt cap. That works but after a few years the handle dries out and gets loose. Now, most people apply glue to each piece as it is stacked and then tighten down the butt cap. That can work quite well if the glue is thin enough to soak in....

I once heard Elmers Glue was used on some leather handles. Was always dubious about that.

Barge cement works best on leather for me.
