Spool valve?????

Can anyone tell me what type of spool valve I would need to run a 20-ton single action Enerpac cylinder? At the present time I am running it off a tee fitting from the hydraulic unit from my 24-ton press. The problem I must disconnect the fitting off the 24-ton cylinder to get full pressure on the Enerpac. I plan on putting the tee off the pump and running it direct to the Enerpac. Thanks

Need more information to be helpful, George- will you be clamping /squeezing/holding, or just moving in and out (positioning)? Will you need to stop in the middle (or anywhere else)? How fast do you want the Enerpac to move (will you have to 'feather' the valve)? Do you want the valve to be detented in each position, or do you want it spring-centered?
When the valve is in the center position, do you want the cylinder to be locked in position, or free to move?

...and so on...

This is only going to be used for cutting billets and putting patterns into them. It will only be used for squeezing. The speed of it is no concern, my 24 ton press with a 4 1/2" cylinder moves 2" per second and I'll be using the same hydraulic unit on the Enerpac. That is the question on the valve, if I run the same type that I have on my press it has up and down. Now on the Enerpac it is a single action cylinder so I thought (scary???) that I wouldn't need the same type of valve????

George, you can use the same kind of valve. Just plug one of the cylinder ports on the valve. Ports are labeled:

P=pressure
T=tank
A=cylinder port A
B=cylinder port B

Usually, port B is blocked at the valve when it is used with a single-acting cylinder.

Hydraulic valve

Plugging the unused port will work, a better solution is to run a line from the unused port back to tank so that you pump isnt going over relief when the cylinder is retracting. Cuts down on teating and wasted energy

Thanks Guys; This means that I'll have to put a T on the pump and off the T one to the valve on my 24 ton press valve and one the the Enerpac valve. Now this also means that I must run a T on the return line from the enerpac valve and 24 ton press???

George, there is a potential problem with two valves. If they are three-position valves (with a spring-centered or a detented center position), the center condition (open to tank, closed center, etc.) will have a bearing on wheather anything will work. You really need to have someone look over a circuit sketch.
