It's a big sucker, I'm going to have to build a cart for it to sit on, and change my 220 plug, but that's not a big deal. I want it to be mobile.

I'm not sure making it mobile would be the best idea. After it has been heated a few times the coil will get very brittle, not a good idea to touch it after that, and I can only imagine any sharp jarring might prove too much for it. Also, movement would likely shake some dust off those soft bricks and, as I said earlier, if that stuff gets on the coil it won't last long.

You may have other reasons for wanting it mobile but heat shouldn't be one of them. An electric furnace doesn't throw heat all over the room like a forge does. It will warm the room a little depending on ventilation but it probably won't run you out. You shouldn't be in the room anyway as you will find argon unpleasant to breathe (meaning you breathe enough of it and you will be unconscious) ....

so I should make it a stationary unit? How close can I put it to combustible things? Like sheet rock and such? I don't want to catch my house on fire.

The instructions that come with the unit will have a diagram for that but you don't have even the remotest chance of igniting sheetrock with that furnace unless you put the sheetrock IN the furnace. Look at the instructions but if memory serves about a foot clearance is all that's needed ...

No, of course not, we never help. Completely up to you to work it out on your own.

But, until then, your 1084 will probably work well at 1475F, hold 5 minutes, quench in oil as before, temper at whatever temperature you've used for 1084.

As for stainless, that will vary greatly according to what stainless you have. But, always a good idea to start with the factory data sheet for the steel in question ...

Nice Kev, I should be ordering mine in about two weeks. Then I might need a new KMG, who knows. Have fun with that thing. Did you get the computer interface with it?
