Tanto
Well I just finished this Tanto knife, remind me to never do another until I can afford a real knife grinder.
I made the bolsters out of mammoth tusk that I had left over from my last knife, I then added some very nicly figured cocobolo handles with a red spacer and use copper mosic pins. I would really like some comments on this knife. I will try to get better pics tomorrow. John |

Very nice, what type steel? It reminds me of the first knife I made a few years ago but mine didn't look near that good.

Hi John, Nice looking overall package. Hope you can get a clearer picture so we can see everything a little better. Pretty darn good work if you don't have a grinder to work with. Thanks for showing us your work.

Ok here are 3 more pictures, they are a little better.
Ron, yup still no grinder. Anyone have a old one they want to donate I did this knife with my 4x36 (I was saying 3x42, sorry my bad) Ryobi desktop sander and files and a RO handheld sander and sanding blocks. I did my grind lines by cutting a template and grinding a edge onto it, then I heated it to non magnetic and then putting it into oil, just like all this website instructed http://hossom.com/tutorial/jonesy/ I then filed the knife using the template so I got a grind line, I then sanded all the angles one at a time, again I DO NOT ever want to make another one of these without a grinder... Here are the pictures, |

Excellent work John, The new pictures are lots better. I can now see the grain in the wood and the finer details about the pins and blade. Nice job all around considering the tools you had to work with. Better start saving for a 2"x72" grinder now that your hooked on knife making. LOL Keep up the good work.

Very Nice work. I've always been a fan of Japanese and Japanese style blades. I would buy that knife in a heartbeat except for the fact that i'm not keen on the more pronounced Chisel points(and i'm as broke as a gumball machine toy). But it's an overall very professional looking job worthy of going for at least $200. Well done.

John:
Great looking piece! Really like the mammoth, it really sets it off. How did you do the hollow grind? Keep up the good work. God Bless Mike __________________ "I cherish the Hammer of Thor, but I praise the hand of God" |

Interesting that you chose the Texas Knife Supply Rebel Tanto kit to style your blade after.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to say something. I just didn't want to be that someone.
