Nice work Jay. Do you know the reason for the deep "wedge" that goes so far below the blade edge on the blade side of the finger guard? Just intrigued and curious.
Thanks. -Pete |

The area you are referring to is the ricasso, and in this case it serves also as a forefinger quillon, to stop the hand from sliding on the blade. It also is a great area for etching or displaying graphics. Some clients have had me put military insignia there. Another beauty Jay! I know you're the master of the gem handle, but your knives look great dressed in wood too! I'm curious about the ricasso also - I'm wondering why a para guy would include that as part of the design. I would think some of your wicked serrations or rope cutter would be a much better use of that space on a CSAR mission. Maybe those things are on his other Jay Fisher original........

Thanks for the comments, guys.
I see your point, Dave. Since my military clients have more real world experience using knives than I ever will, I defer to their requests. That's the neat thing about making custom knives. They know what they need and how they use the knives, and I know how to make them. That's a partnership I'm proud to be part of! I'll add that the design has been very well supported; I've had requests for many of the Paraeagles over the years. The last client writes: "It is beautiful. It has heft, balance , authority, symmetry, and expresses a sense of useful purpose. " He says it better than I ever could!
