Question 2X72 Fabrication Plans?

Hi all,
I am seeking 'plans' and/or tutorial for a good versatile 2X72 frame. I don't mind paying for a legitimate set of plans if it's a logical path to take.
I know a very good fabricator who is willing to build one for me (for barter of goods and services).
I would like to make this project as easy and straight-forward for the fabricator as possible.
A KMG clone would probably be the ultimate and I have seen plans for them.... but if there's a simpler design or route... I am all ears. A KMG clone build may be asking too much.
I just want him to fabricate a nice basic frame with platen and contact wheel... I will provide motor (likely 1hp, pulley or direct drive, either ok) and contact wheel (10" but would like interchangeability option for 8" or possibly other?). Contact wheel interchangeability is not necessary if it is too complex of feature. I can live with a permanent 10" if that's the case.
Doesn't have to be an "ultimate end-all 2X72" as I am not a production knifemaker and never will be... just a hobbyist. Any advice or links are greatly appreciated!

Hey. I have 2 different plans that I found for free on the net. Both are similar. One of them even has cad for laser cut or water jet. I dont remember where i got them but I just did a search for the plans. Let me know if you don't find them. I am at work now but when I get home I can email them to you.

Thank you!

good morning Chris.

you,ll love grinding on a 2 x 72. when I finally made the jump it made all the difference in the world.

you might want to think about the no weld grinder plans that Tracy sells over at USA Knife makers sup. I built mine using a few of his ideas and mine put together and its worked fine.

you might also want to rethink the 1hp motor. In my opinion you will regret that small of motor. with a 10 inch you you will be dogging the motor a lot. I have a 1.5 hp on a 6" and wish I'd jumped to a 2hp.

cutter,
I'll have a look at the plans Tracy sells now.
I will most definitely reconsider my motor size as well based on your comment.
Thank you!

hey rockhound,
check out Wayne Coe's website. http://waynecoeartistblacksmith.com/...nder_Kits.html

He sells a dvd with all the info you need to build a nice grinder. I bought the dvd a couple of weeks ago at the quad state blacksmith conference and I really like it. the grinder is built from regular metal you would find at any fab shop. he tells you where you can buy the wheels.

i like the rotating tool arm. it has a small wheel at the top, flat platen in the middle and an eight inch wheel on the bottom and you can rotate it to the one you want to use. also a slack belt area.

he also sells several different kits for this grinder from the material to the finished grinder. looking forward to building one of them very soon. doug a. John 3:16

Pelallito.
Ya those are great instructions. That is pretty much what my grinder is going to look like when I get the time and extra cash.

Cool I hope it works out for you. I can't wait to get started on mine but I have other things in line first. I may just get the hf belt grinder for now and go from there.

I'm still gonna have to spring for a motor (hopefully 2hp Leeson) and contact wheel so it may take me a bit to afford those things. But..... meanwhile the fab guy can hopefully build that frame for barter.
My biz got crazy busy this last month or so before winter and I do not have the time nor resources to assemble that frame.

I read in the forums that sunray-inc.com has a pretty good price on wheels. Looks like they can even custom make just about any kind of wheel. I was even considering trying out an 8 inch caster wheel. That is the largest I have found so far but. It is cast aluminum, machined with bearing and 70 durometer urethane for about 50 bucks.
