Gorilla Glue....Super Glue

While browsing around Home Depot last week, I saw a display of Gorilla Glue Super Glue. I looked at the price and thought "Man! That's a bit pricey for super glue." I went on with my tool browsing but kept thinking about the glue...long story short, I ended up picking up a bottle. Just got around to trying some of it this morning....this stuff is pretty awesome! It's got a better bond than most other super glues I've used, and a tiny bit of this stuff goes a LONG way.
OH! And it will glue your fingers together much better than other super glues! Took nearly a full minute of soaking my stuck together fingers in acetone to get it to let go!

Ed, I discovered that stuff about 2 months ago. You're findings are the same as mine. I don't use any other superglue now. I like the fact that it seems to have a tiny bit of 'flex' to it making it way less brittle than other stuff.

I took an old piece of steel laying around and a piece of micarta. I d##n't clean or prep either surface. Both pieces were about 4 inches long and I overlapped just an inch and a good size drop of the super glue. Clamped lightly for 15 minutes. After that, I could NOT separate the pieces with just my hands. Had to put one end in the vise and use both hands to break it and it tore chunks of the micarta out and left them glued to the steel.

I should probably be flogged for not sharing this tip earlier.

I meant to share and just kept forgetting.

I don't like the regular gorilla glue at all but the super glue is the best.

Yes it is great glue i have been using it for a while now and will not buy any thing but gorilla brand super glue.

As per your post...I too had to go out and locate a bottle of this Gorilla super Glue. When I am profiling my handles, I like to super glue both scales together with a small drop. Then drill the holes, outline the handle, cut the handle, sand and profile the handle so both s##es are the same and then sand / buff the top edge prior to epoxy the entire assembly together.

I am doing a 6 piece kitchen set and d## the last handle with Gorilla glue. After I was ready to take the scales apart, usually just requires a little tap on the vice. What the heck. Would not come off. The others just 'snapped off'. Ok, tap harder....harder....now upset I get the 2 pd dead blow... I must of smacked it on the edge 20 times and then finally 'snap'. Can you believe that I broke out a chunk of my stabilized spalted maple. thank goodness I had a couple spares from the same board.

All fun and part of learning.... This stuff is tough!

Dennis, I use that method too. You're right, it takes some care to separate the scales. Like Ed sa##, a little goes a LOOOONG way.

I use a tiny, tiny drop at the top and bottom. Then when I want to get them apart, a quick slice with a razor knife right in the joint works really good.

I started using it a couple years ago and was very impressed but I never posted it on any forums. Any type of super glue usage would have been frowned on.

As##e from all the above qualities you also get to use all of it. The l## and applicator was very well designed to not clog like every other brand does. The l## also comes off without having to practically use a pipe wrench.

So IMHO it's probably cheaper to use then the less expensive brands that clog after the the second use.
