A father son Pair.
Got a request from My Sysco rep for a knife for him and his son. Here they are, he is coming to pick them up in the morning so I just finished them up.
Can you tell I had a day off? Plus it looks like my house is SOLD and I have to move into a rental and I don't know how much knife work I'll be able to do for a while. |

Why do you say that? They seem oddly short and the handles could be rounded a bit more but the file work is nice and the fit and finish is good. What more do you want for two knives in one day?

They look good to me. Wish I could pump out two in a day.

Well, I say that cause 80 people looked and passed by. But Oh well, I'll take it as unspoken constructive criticism.
Maybe it's the pics, cause they are not short, both knives are 8 1/2 inches long. I also noticed that the shadows in the pic make it look like the handles are different thickness on both sides which isn't the case. I didn't make both of these knives yesturday. I'm not that fast, I've had both of them in the works for several weeks, I just finished them up. But thanks for the comments and I will work on the handle edges more. |

I would like to add that the sheath on the left is Kydex, and the sheath on the right is Holstex. I've made 20+ sheaths from kydex with no problems. I've now made 3 sheaths with holstex and had nothing but problems. The clear want's to crack and chip. The black gave me no end of problems with it getting gooey and sticking to it's self before it was even warm enough to work. It doesn't seem to have the "memory" like Kydex. With Kydex if I don't like the shape or position of the knife in the sheath I simply reheat and it returns to it's original shape. The holstex would not do that. I had to throw 2 pieces away yesturday. Too bad because the Holstex has better colors and patterns.
I should probably post this in the sheath forum. Last edited by ricky_arthur; 01-23-2013 at 12:00 PM. |
