Question about Damascus
Hi, I have not been able to find much out regarding my question about Damascus knives. Are they supposed to have or can they have ridges (for lack of a better word) that can be felt with the fingernail or is this some sort of etching process that is not considered true Damascus?

Yes. To bring the pattern out knifemakers and manufacturers will use an acid to bring the pattern out. Depending how strong the solution relative to exposure will determine how deep of an etch will be on the Damascus. So yes, there may be felt ridges in the Damascus.
Some processes of discoloring the metal may visually appear as a "damascus" but it may not. __________________ Mike |
