Restoring a knife

Hello all,

A friend asked me to restore a loose handle of a knife he made in Vietnam. The handle was really loose, the blade needed a new edge and the temper was a bit hard.

I retempered the blade as it was 1090. This is how it turned out after a quick dip in ferric cloric acid to restore the patina some what and I notice this line -

Any recommendations on where to proceed from here? He didn't want mr to remove all the scratches as so many of them were earned.

Jim
