updtaing my grinder
good day to all,
In my future plans to upgrade my grinder. I have had it for years and its time to change the motor. I want to get a motor with the following specs - Enclosure: TEFC Phase: 3 Hz: 60 Frame: 56C Have looked at Baldors, and found one on here that is compatible https://www.mrosupply.com/product/69...eneral_Purpose what do you think of Baldors? what are the alternatives? What are you using and do you like what you have? Thanks! |

Baldors are great, just very expensive. You weren't 100% clear on whether or not you already have 3 phase power available. If you do, then get any TEFC 3 ph motor you like. If you don't, you'll need to look into getting 3 ph power and/or a converter adequate to handle whatever motor you choose. As long as you're at it, look into VFD controllers if you stay with the 3 ph idea....

Baldors are very good. Sometimes you can find some good deals on Ebay for them too.
Something a lot of people overlook when talking motors is not all are created equal powerwise. I've had some 1hp motors run very strong, and some very weak....both marketed as 1hp. The Baldors I've used always ran on the strong side, ran quiet, and gave me nil problems. What am I using now? I have a nice Japanese 1.5hp motor I picked up surplus (the exact name escapes me), and a branded Chinese 1.5hp that seems to run good but its too soon to judge its longevity. Baldor was my first choice but they just weren't available to me in the model I needed. |

JackDani...I have built several shop machines...mostly grinders...and I am very fortunate because I am close to an industrial surplus business where I can buy three phase motors of all sizes and configurations for as little as $20.00. I have tried most of the leading brands of U.S. made motors...and I would put Baldor motors among the very best available.
I am currently building a KMG type grinder using a three phase 3HP 1725 motor that will be driven with a DVD. I just purchased the DVD from an EBAY store for $120.00 ....which is an absolute steal....and that included free shipping to CONUS locations. Check it out, they still have nine or ten left. I have no affiliation what-so ever, but thought others might like to know about it. |
