Super Squirt 2.0

Greetings all, most of the posts on SS2.0 were from several years ago. Need advice on how to keep the large plastic washer in place while assembling the blade and liners. I tried taping but didn't work well.

Another question, how do you determine the types of screws and sizes? Already have lost a spring, screw and standoff. There are a gazillion screw types and not sure which ones to reorder.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you building a folder from scratch or trying to repair one? Is it a liner lock?

I've built hundreds of liner locks and never had any problem keeping the washers in place because they sit on the pivot. Why isn't that working for you?

Can you snap a pic of the folder in question so we can see the internals-layout? Sounds like this is this a spring assisted opening knife?

A traditional liner lock without assisted opening the blade pivot on mine has enough to retain the washers when I put the liner back on for assembly. If the pivot is short then it will not index with the opposite side frame so there will be play.

The usual formula for washer thickness is the backstrap width minus blade thickness and roughly divide that by 2 so that you have an equal space washer on each side. For liner locks that the liner will put tension on the blade pushing it off to one side I reduce the washer on the lock side by .001" or so and add that to the non-locking side so the blade centers. Washers on mine are usually .004" and .005" thickness. With thicker washers slight variables do not show as much visually so some degree of difference is acceptable.

You can use just about any screw you feel appropriate. For ease of obtaining cutting tools like drills and taps mainstream is easy and less on the wallet. 2-56, 6-32 and 8-32 are very affordable. 0-80 sizes cost a touch more but are readily sourced, my folders use 0-80. On larger ones I debated 1-72 but the nicer price is with 2-56 and those are easier to obtain.

Hi RB,

Call Michael Norman at 1-877-255-6433 and he'll help you get what you need for that kit. He can also help you do a live build over the phone. Here's a link to the kit for those who are unfamiliar with the design...

The above link as a sub-link to the kit instructions. (they may be helpful)
