How to attach/pin a pommel (pic)

Could someone tell me please how I could go about attaching a pommel like in the picture? I am not only showing a puukko picture, it's also the knife type I am making. The pommel material will be 3 mm in thickness. It might be a stainless steel or brass. Depends on what I can find...

I guess it can be done in different ways? Probably hehe... like almost always

Thanks in advance!

Idk on how others do it, but I'll silver braze a bolt on the tang. I'll then braze a threaded sleave onto the pommel. The handle is filled with epoxy (more as a sealant and stabilizer than to hold it together) and screw the unit together. Done right it is bullet proof.

In short, the tang has to go all the way through the handle and it must be threaded on the end. There are many ways to create a tang like this (James just explained one way). The pommel is tapped and threaded to mate with the tang, again James explained how to do this with such a thin pommel. A thicker pommel could be tapped and threaded directly without soldering anything to it.

Go to most any knife supply website and look at the fixed blade kit knives. It is easy to see the various ways knives are put together when you look at the unassembled parts....

Ray, do you know of any videos where they threaded the tang he could view to see what you're saying? Here is a link to a hidden tang knife with a threaded tang http://usaknifemaker.com/knife-blade...40c-steel.html.

I use either a 10-32 die or 1/4-20 die to thread tangs for pommels. A pinned pommel needs a full tang or at least 1/4 inch wide material left to pin. I think they call it a hilt.

Good tip to look at knife kits to see the construction of knife types! Exellent one even Thanks!

I have seen a lot of vids about hidden tang constuction. But never one with such a thin pommel. Silver soldering sounds like the easiest way. Maybe even the only way for this. Thanks James!
