That isn't an easy question to answer. "Best' will depend on what you are really looking for. I have written a few reviews on some of the more popular books, maybe that will help. You can find the reviews at http://www.rayrogers.com/books.htm

$50 knife shop is a good book that covers a little bit of everything; particularly, starting knife making on a budget.
The second book on Ray's list (How to make knives) is also an excellent book. If I could only have one or the other of the above, I'd pick the 2nd. Another good book that I believe can be found online, is "step by step knifemaking" by david boye. It's got a lot of great info in it. Similarly, I believe Bob Terzuola's folder book can be found online. It's considered by many to be the best book out there on making a linerlock folder. __________________ -Andrew Riley For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.... At this point I would like to stick to fixed blade knives. Maybe folders later, but one thing at a time for now. got more than enough to learn with fixed blades.

I have to 2nd ARCustomKnives recommendation of Wayne Goddard's "The $50 Knife Shop" or alternatively his "Wonder of Knifemaking". Both books are full of some great basic information and they are not terribly expensive.
Cheers, Chad |
