First Knife Sorta...........lol
Actually I've profiled quite a few blades, but never took them this far on my "ghetto grinder". Ray, be easy on my grind lines! Oh yeah, had a malfunction on my first crack at jimping a blade. Just steel though, I'll fix it. Oh yeah this is a leaf spring from a 71 camaro.

Well, you have grind lines so that's a good thing. They don't look all that bad. You might try raising them up higher on the blade though. With metal that thick such a short grind makes for a very wide edge so I wouldn't expect that knife to slice very well on stiff materials....

You should also pick up some known steel like 1084 from Aldo Bruno. You never know what's exactly in mystery metal! Although I'm just as guilty of playing with it myself. But ht that puppy, get some handles on her and test the crap out of it! See how the edge holds, how it cuts etc.

Will do Nate, but Aldo has been out of 1084 for over a week. At least what I want, 3/16 x 1 1/2 or 2". I plan on testing her, really hard! I just got back from going to get a 95lb pull magnet from the hardware store. I'll probably post a video on the heat treat sometime today. My shop isn't as clean as Eli's though!

You can thicken the edge up a little on the sander. It is a little thin. Good luck and I look forward to the video.

I wanted to buy some 1084 from Aldo and have been watching for it. Had to buy some 1080 from USAknifemaker. Started ruining, I mean grinding/profiling it today... Is it any good for making hamons?

1080 should do fine for hamons...

I think my attempting a hamon may be jumping way ahead for me. But 1080 is cheap and knowledge comes at a price... If I follow the videos that Eli posted, step by step, I think that everything will work out just fine. The hardest part for me is slowing down. My 9-6 job has me in the habit of rushing and it's a hard habit to break...
