Try a venturi set up.

My brother and I setup his hood over what used to be his coke forge (coke burns better than coal) with two side pipes with 6" fans blowing into the hood pipe over the forge. It caused the hood to pull the heat from the forge without going through a fan. We are both sheetmetal mechanics and doing blow pipe wasn't a problem for us. Also we made the hood pipe square and so it was easier to hook up the round 6" pipe. Here is something similar to what we used and you might want to contact the company and see if they have fans that can handle the high heat above a forge.
