You ask what if you don't have the money to fix it when the unknown part finally fails. What difference does that make? If you don't run the machine you won't make any money from knives and you'll have to wait until whatever other sources of money you have can generate some money. Waiting gains you nothing. On the other hand, if the part doesn't fail right away you might get a knife or two done and generate some money.
I can't see any real down side to using the machine until the part fails....
