My first shop accident is a while..
and a strange one to boot.
This morning I was finish grinding a large "chopper", basically a Kukri design using the rotary platen. I was down to 600 grit, and the belt broke....the belt on the rotary platen grabbed the blade, and as I was trying to turn away, the point drove about an inch deep into my left hip...just below the hip bone. I grabbed it, and went into the house, thinking I would clean it out and bandage it up..... that worked for about 10 mins. I was back in the shop and felt something wet on my hip.....my "patch job" didn't hold. Just got back from the Doc....8 stitches, and a tetanus shot later it's time to go back to work. Not much worried about me, I'll heal, but now I have to replace the belt on my rotary platen, and try to clean up the gouge in one of the grooved aluminum rollers. Just like my Grandad used to tell me....."There's traps everywhere for a man!" ![]() Be Safe Folks!!

Get well quick Ed. You're supposed to curl up next to a fireplace when it's cold out, not flying steel. Probably going to smart more tomorrow, might have to skip yoga class
.Glad you're ok, Craig |

I'm glad that it was no worse. Sometimes you just have to give up and let the docs take care of you. If we wanted to do somethig that was absolutely safe, we could all collect stamps.

Well, there are all kinds of ways to test a blade, but this may be a bit extreme. Did the edge chip or roll?
![]() Just when we sometimes get in our comfort zone, we are reminded that there is always something around every corner to ruin our day. Be careful Ed. Hope you heal quickly. Robert |

"We can rebuild him.....we have the technology....". I'd be pushing for one of those bionic type hips if I were you. Just think how much you could make in bets on leaping buildings and such?
