Steel question - 8670
What characteristics would you expect out of 8670:
C - .7 Si - .25 Mn -.5 P < .025 Cr - .4 Mo - .075 Ni - .85 Here's L-6 by way of comparison: C - .7 Si - .5 Mn - .5 P - 0 Cr - .9 Mo - .5 Ni - 1.6 __________________ Gabe Newell |

Since I don't work with L6 I probably shouldn't reply here, but I would expect very similar results. The differences might be in the forging qualities more than the performance.

Since it has about half the chrome you may not see the same depth of hardening as in L6. Ms and tempering ranges could change due to the difference in moly. It would have many similar attributes but to a lesser degree. Chemistry is not set in stone but the L6 should probably read C- .75, Cr-.8 different sources will give different numbers, but it has been my experince that if it has the moly the C and the Cr would be closer to what I suggest. |
