Stropping lesson...
Well, I just broke down and got a 2x72 leather belt for final stropping on an edge. My question is whether you load it up with a rouge of some kind, or is it just the leather itself?
Many thanks, Chris |

Chris, yes, you do need to put buffing compound on the leather belt.
Here's an additional tip: before first use, soak it briefly in water. You will discover that it is not quite 72" around, and won't fit on your 2x72 grinder. The wetting allows it to stretch enough to go on the machine. Let it dry while mounted (with the machine OFF). I have had one for several years, but I don't use it anymore. I use barge cement to glue strips of leather to flat boards, then I oil the leather and spray with 8000 grit diamond spray (available in small pump bottles from Glendo Corp.- the GRS engraving people). A couple of swipes of a sharpened blade over this surface does wonders. It also involves no machine setup, and is quite portable for things like shows and camping trips. |

Thanks for the tips Don! Especially the one about soaking the belt before use. I like your board idea for use while traveling. The grinder can be hard to pack at times.
