Gotland style Seax / War Knife
Been a while, but I thought I'd post some things I've made over the past few years... Here's a Gotland style "war knife" or seax. Historically, most of these weren't pattern welded, but there are a couple. They're roughly Viking Age-ish and tend to come from the Eastern Baltic. The handle is a rock maple from my property. |

Beautiful work J, I've really started to like this style of knife more and more, need to get away from the Saxon blades for awhile...
How did you terminate the wires in the handle wrap? __________________ A good friend told me one time about forging "What is there not to like, you get to break all the rules you were told as a kid, don't play with that it is sharp, don't play with fire, and don't beat on that" Wade Holloway See some of my work. |

Seax Many Variations
Here below are attachments of seax that vary where they originated in Anglo-Saxon civilization. The ones pictured are from Essex and Middlesex in England.

Looks great!
P.S. My wedding ring is still holding up, though I need to etch it again. __________________ Andy Garrett https://www.facebook.com/GarrettKnives?ref=hl Charter Member - Kansas Custom Knifemaker's Association www.kansasknives.org "Drawing your knife from its sheath and using it in the presence of others should be an event complete with oos, ahhs, and questions." |
