What are you using to grind? It's easy to try for a flat grind and end up with a convex. . . |

Bruce - Thanks. I missed some of the threads on my last search. I'll probably post a procedure and look for feedback.
Well here's the latest progress. Ground to 120 The top 2 will most likely be my KITH submission. I screwed up the middle one by stamping across the plunge :. The 4th from the top had some "issues" as seen by the additional sharpie lines along the blade. Marks are for scale layout and pin location. A couple of passes with 240 & onto heat treat and hopefully a hamon I ground another blade as additional insurance. As before, comments & critiques welcome |

Days 3 and 4
So I think (Let me stress this again) I THINK everything is going without too many disasters.Spent about 3 hours with a file today trying to square everything up. Got a little nervouse with the lower pin holes as there is about an 1/8" to the sidewall(Crosses fingers). I brought it over to my fathers house today to let him see the progress. Which brings me to my first question...
He said " Son... why are there some many dange holes in there ? " How many pins do you guys normaly use. For this one I have the one 1/4" pin for a mosaic and the four 1/8" outliers becuase I thought A) It would help with support B) I thought it added nice flow. The three for the bolster will blend in so you should not see them..... correct ? With any luck I will begin grinding on it this week. ( Did I say grinding I meant sacrifice). This is the first knife I have done that has the cleft that I would like to incorporate into the blade. Has anyone done this that can give any tips. I guess I will file the edges at 45d Then it should grind like the rest of the blade ? Anyway I will quit taking up your time . I just hope that this isnt too newbish for the newb kith /Cheers James |

Yeah, those lower holes look a little close to the edge. Don't forget, your handle material will taper in that area.
Just because you have those holes doesn't mean you have to use them. If you don't like where they are at, drill others. Once you have the handle slabs on, you won't see the unused holes. |

i would move the holes in a bit more, might look a little better unless you leave the edges square. tight now it would be very easy to grind off a little too much when shaping the pins and expose one

Newbie KITH
Well here's my pattern for the kith knife. About 9 inches overall, looking at my supplies for bolster materiel and slabs.
