Stag coating/preserver/finish?????

Howdy all,

I have searched my fingers to the bone and have found nothing on this topic so hear goes..

What if anything should be applied to a stag crown handle to help preserve it?

Thanks,
Jerid

None required after the stag is buffed. A little wax from time to time helps remove hand oils and dirt.

Howdy Yamama!
When I use a full section elk or white tail antler I use thin super glue in the open capileries until it comes out the other side. It never seem like a good idea to use something as strong as JB Weld to set in a half tang in the soft center of an antler.

Thanks guys.

I used epoxy to set in the tang.

George,
Is basic caranuba wax ok or do you recommend something else?

Thanks,
Jerid

Any good paste wax for furniture will do the job but I prefer Rennaisance wax, brings up the colour of the wood and such very well while it floats the dirt off.

Epoxy shrinks, thats why I use the JB Weld. It has steel powder in it to set my antler.
Also I have used the Mimwax stain/wax liquid on old sheds that are dry from laying in the woods so long. I will put it on and wipe it off thee or four times until I get the look I want. I will send an e-mail of one.
